Regata storica in Venice

The Regata Storica in Venice takes place the first Sunday of September, is the main event in the annual “Voga alla Veneta” rowing calendar.

The Regata Storica has been practised in the Venetian Lagoon for thousands and today is still famous for its amazing races long the Gran Canal and inside the St. Mark Basin.

The competition consists of four races divided for category of ages and kind of craft. The best know and the most exciting is the “Campioni su Gongolini” race, where the Gondolas are the protagonists and ending its race at the famous “machina” the unique floating stage located in front of the Ca’ Foscari palace.

Venetian people and tourists are here every year to cheer for their favorite team and to see the colorful boats in the St. Mark Basin.

The historical parade is a spectacular parate of hundreds of colorful traditional boats, on board traditional dressed Gondoliers carry the Doge, the Dogessa, Caterina Cornaro and all the highest offices of the Serenissima.
