The Feast of the Sensa:

The marriage of Venice with the sea

The Feast of the Sensa is one of the oldest and most evocative celebrations of Venice. Every year, on the Ascension, the city relives the “Marriage with the Sea”, symbol of Venice’s bond with the Adriatic. Its origins date back to the year 1000 with Doge Pietro II Orseolo. In 1177, it merged with the peace between Pope Alexander III and Frederick Barbarossa. The Doge boarded the Bucintoro and threw a golden ring into the sea, proclaiming: “Desponsamus te, mare, in signum veri perpetuique dominii”. Today the celebration lives on with a procession of boats from St. Mark’s Basin to the Lido.

The Venice Boat Show: innovation on the water

The Venice Boat Show is held every year in the Arsenale. It gathers exhibitors worldwide and showcases luxury yachts, sailing boats, motorboats and sustainable innovations. The program also includes water trials, workshops and conferences, making it a benchmark event for the sector.
